Hello Members,
This month will be our last meeting of the season, and what an exciting year it has been, with the development of the new website, and the support of the membership with present and future programs. Looking forward to our road trip on September 16 to Kelowna, and to Claire Smith-Burns' presentation at our September 28 meeting at Heritage House!
It has been suggested by Ashley that our website Membership List could include the Surnames and Countries you are researching. If you would like us to add these, please send the updated details to webmaster@kfhs.org.
A big thank you to Kelowna & District Genealogical Society for inviting us to partake in Mary Kercher Roddy's webinar on Spreadsheets 101: Excel-lence in Genealogy. Here are some comments from some of our attending members:
Helen's comments - Mary’s spreadsheet presentation was very informative and easy to follow for someone who has never used spreadsheets. A great way to keep track of ancestor research.
Karen's comments - Very interesting. Not only did I learn more on how to use the spreadsheets but the added info on how to use them for genealogy was excellent. Thanks KDGS for the invite, much appreciated.
Marg's comments - Great presentation! The spreadsheet is another tool to organize our family data. Mary's handout is a step by step on how to get started. I'm going to try it with one branch on my Perry Family Tree. Perhaps at one of our meetings we could share Mary's Notes with a demo of the value of this tool.
Kay's comments via Marg - Mary's presentation was excellent. I really enjoyed it. So, "Kay, do you think we could have, in the fall, an Interest Group to share our knowledge about How to Create a Genealogy Spreadsheet?"
Lindley's comments - I have been reluctant to use in the past as I didn't understand the use of cells etc. Mary gave me the confidence to start with simple first. I am now glad to start the process. Mary's follow-up notes on How To Instructions is very detailed and easy to follow.
