Christmas Meeting November 23 • 6:30 pm - 8:30 p.m. • Heritage House • New Members Always Welcome! Visit the Family Search Centre • KFHS Management Team Zoom Meeting on January 2, 2024 , 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Our long time member, Doug Foreman, joined KFHS in 1994 and in April of 1996 wrote an article in the KFHS journal, Family Footsteps, entitled “Family Tree Maker”. This is a genealogy program that since 1995, has allowed genealogical researchers to keep track of information collected during research and to create reports, charts, and books containing that information.
Doug had a passion for computers and genealogy. He owned his own computer company, Interior Computing, for several years and worked writing programs and maintaining other companies’ systems. Doug worked for such companies as Highland Valley Copper, City of Kamloops and BCLC, where he worked until retirement. He continued to enjoy software programming after retirement and was a large contributing member of the Kamloops Family History Society. He wrote the programming for our website and actively helped building databases of information.
Since the mid 1990s, he held practically every position in the society from President to Webmaster. He was ever willing to help members to become more “computer literate”. One member noted that “No one could have been a more dedicated KFHS member." Of course he was the ultimate computer nerd dragging many of us (kicking and screaming) into the cyber world. Most of what I know about computers I learned from him. An "amazing man” Doug passed away, following a lengthy period of poor health, on June 12, 2022.
Commemoration of his life would not be complete without mention of his wife, Crystal Ann (Bannister). Doug will be remembered for how loving and dedicated he was to her. He took great pride in taking care of her and spent countless hours maintaining their backyard and pool for everyone close to them to enjoy.
In offering remembrance to Doug, his family and friends, we remember, as we launch a new KFHS website, that we would not be where we are today without Doug. He never gave upon those of us who needed and accepted his guidance on the need for onward progress on digital updating of our website and keeping track of information collected during research and to create reports, charts, and books containing that information.
We dedicate this site in memory of Doug for his dedication and contributions to our Kamloops Family History Society.
